Glia Voices: Working Parents of Glia
Hear from three working parents about how working at Glia makes their days a little less chaotic and how Glia supports them in their journey.
Life at Glia

As Glia continues to grow as a company, so do our Glianeers' families. Glia is full of parents, from those who have just recently added a little one to their families, to the ones who have become empty nesters. Either way, Glia supports everyone no matter where they are in their parenting journey.

Glia takes pride in our FlexWork policy, which supports Glianeers to work in different environments as they see fit. We continue to see great successes with a flexible environment, especially with our working parents. We were able to have a few of our Glianeer parents share their experiences on how working at Glia makes their days a little less chaotic.

Jen LaDuc, Enterprise Account Executive, Mother of 4: Ages 11, 9, 7, and 4

Knowing our company is remote focused really puts the weight off our shoulders. When I’m not traveling, I am able to be at the bus stop during the week to pick up my kids. I wouldn't be able to do that working from an office everyday.

Management and leadership are extremely understanding when it comes to unexpected situations that have anything to do with our kids. No one is hounding you throughout the day. I work odd hours to accommodate my kids' schedules, which are all different when it comes to school, after school activities, sports, etc. So, sometimes I’m following up on emails later in the evening, and that is okay.  I’m getting my work done and there are no questions asked.

A couple Christmas’ ago, Glia sent us four unicorns, so my kids could each have their own. It’s the little things, you know? Glia understands the importance of the time we spend outside of work and the need of being flexible when it comes to having a family.

Ray Gordon, Manager of Customer Success, Father of 2: Ages 9 and 6

Glia gives me the opportunity to parent while being able to coexist as a Manager. Because of our flex work policy, I’ve become the default parent. I am able to meet my kid’s needs as they come up, like going to doctors appointments, after school activities, and whenever they get sick. My son is autistic, so while it's important that I'm able to get him to therapy appointments, I can still bring my laptop and remain fully connected and available from the waiting room.

As a manager, I set expectations up front. Work-life balance requires that even mixture and I trust my team to figure it out. If my team needs something and may be offline for a bit to be with their family, they always let me know and we figure out a plan so they can be present with whatever they need to do.

Leaders from the top-down also set a great example. I remember I was on a call and our VP called in saying something came up and he was in the middle of picking up kids. It didn’t matter where he was, he was able to join the call and picked up the kids at the same time.

All in all, Glia recognizes that my family is always going to be the most important thing to me and gives me the flexibility to never compromise that.

Hydei Drake, Senior Customer Success Manager: Mother of 2: Ages 2 and 8 months

Being able to both work and be present in my children’s lives are extremely important to me, and Glia empowers me to do both.

My daughter was 11 months old when I joined Glia. A few weeks into my role, she caught a bug from school and had to stay home. I let my manager know I would be on and offline throughout the day, and he responded with (something along the lines of), “Thanks for letting me know. Hope she feels better soon!” and there were no questions asked thereafter, even to this day whenever my children have to stay home unexpectedly.  That was definitely my “aha” moment for me that I was at the right place.

Glia trusts us to get our work done, and it doesn’t need to be done between the ‘traditional’ 9-5 hours. I’m able to get my kids ready for school, drop them off at school, and pick them up, and take them to doctors appointments all while responding to emails, preparing for calls, and joining meetings  in between. We’re in a busy time in our lives having two young children, but Glia allows me to be with my family and work at the same time.
